A s s e n t

    Fogged,
    Inspiration clouds information.

    Restless,
    Sedation dreams revelation.

Despite what good I've ever known

From all the pain this breath has drawn

      Just whistles of diminished wind

      Across deserted dunes.

      The fairness of this place

      Alone, unshared, is ruin.

    Conceit, detached, does not embrace
Ever mournful memories of her face.

    Habitude driven
    Sacrament striven.

    Unanswered questions
    To voiceless rejection.

If ever toned a hymn in tune

Was on a breath from her, I drew.

      Unless I can revive

      Lost harmonies, I strive

      Kept of furies, never sharing,

      Tranquil love endearing, fearing.

    Clawing at heaven's
    Tortured benightedness

    Dove sign or raven
    Spirit! Enlighten this!

Did You catch my fallen angel?

Is the blush upon her cheek set right?

Did You balm her wings with heaven?

      And salve her lonely fright?

Would You keep her, as I couldn't?

Little more I would or dare,

      But,

      When she fell,

It was from me, not You

I'm so sure that You were there!

If my beloved, fell from capture

      Into timeless clouds of rapture

Safe above the plumes of hell,

Do You smile on her as she drifts,

Across the bog and rising cliffs?

      Does her gentle passion dwell
      Equal in You,
      Enough,
      To keep her,

      My fallen angel, well?
